Simply put, Common Ground Kaua’i is about making positive and lasting changes in the way we use natural and human resources to improve the quality of life for all; Now and in the future.

This means ensuring all events and related activities hosted by Common Ground:

- provide an accessible and inclusive setting for all;
- provide a safe and secure atmosphere;
- have minimal negative impacts on the environment;
- encourage healthy living;
- promote local sourcing;
- leave a positive legacy;
- deliver excellent customer experience; and
- encourage more sustainable behavior.

Who are these guidelines are for?

These guidelines have been developed for Common Ground event organizers. They are equally relevant to internal and external hosts organizing events at Common Ground. We have published these guidelines both for consistency in the events we host and to stimulate further interest in sustainability across the event sector.

Types of events covered by these guidelines?

There will be a range of events hosted by Common Ground we feel are in alignment with our mission. These events will be an integral part of our communications and outreach and will play a major part in projecting our vision for promoting the creation of self-reliant communities.

How to use these guidelines?

These guidelines set out a framework for ensuring all events are in alignment with our vision. They should be applied with respect to each official partner, and supplier.

Keep in mind these are guidelines; they do not comprise an exhaustive checklist or manual. Every event has its particular circumstances and it is important for organizers to consider the key sustainability issues specific to their event. It’s always good to have access to appropriate expertise to guide you through the technical aspects of making your event more sustainable.
